Paranormal Bite- 5-26-13

We've got another fabulous Sunday to indulge in eight awesome sentences! Here's an excerpt from my May 29, 2013 release of Blood Moon on the Rise.

 Tamara and Nicholas the hero and heroine are members of a supernatural creature hunting society. An ancient law forbids them from falling in love and yet they were assigned as partners when they were fifteen years old. Now as adults, they are fighting the feelings which have only grown between them since they were teenagers. Here Tamara's been injured by a werewolf attack and Nicholas is going to heal her but her damaged jeans are in the way.

Nicholas left the room and returned a pair of large scissors and made as if to cut her jeans off just above the wound.

“Hey, what are you doing?” Tamara waved the scissors away.

“Tamara, it’s either off with the pants entirely or cropping off one side,” he said and clicked the scissors together, a wicked glint in his eyes. She hated it when he did that. When he joked and teased at the edge of the very issue they never talked about. How could he always find a joke to ease the tension, when all she wanted was to jump his bones?

“Oh, alright, cut it off,” she surrendered with an exasperated sigh.

Here Nicholas is confronting a sorceress Jacqueline who put a deadly lust spell on him that almost killed Tamara.

Her prey was so close...

       A small crystal was tied to a leather band around Tamara Gilbert’s wrist. It hummed in a soft vibration against her skin as a warning of approaching danger. The magic trapped in the gemstone burned, getting her attention. Her breath quickened. Soon she’d be hunting. Her heart skipped a beat as a rush of adrenaline shot through her system. The effect was drugging; the heightened sensations, the heady sense of power, the knowledge that she had the advantage.

An ancient law forbids them from falling in love and yet they were assigned as partners when they were fifteen years old. “Why couldn’t you just kill her? I set my spell up so nicely,” Jacqueline snapped.

“Sorry, but I’m not inclined to be some witch’s boy toy.” Nicholas leaned against the bar, his chest still stinging where the chair had struck him.

          The pair of them eyed each other, like alpha wolves vying for dominance. The distance between them crackled with their magic, eager to be used, to kill, to destroy. The bar door opened before either of them could make another move. Tamara stood there, panting and looking pissed as hell and weak as a kitten.

 Tamara and Nicholas the hero and heroine are members of a supernatural creature hunting society. An ancient law forbids them from falling in love and yet they were assigned as partners when they were fifteen years old. Now as adults, they are fighting the feelings which have only grown between them since they were teenagers.

“I’ll see you in the morning.” His voice came out low and rough.

She paused at the threshold of her doorway, looking over her shoulder at him. Her eyes were soft, but that awful haunted look formed shadows behind them. A thousand words unsaid hung heavy in the air, and he wasn’t brave enough to say any of them, not yet. But they warmed his heart and filled him with sadness all the same.

“Goodnight…Nicholas.”

Every time she said it, it felt like goodbye.
